Wolsztyn Update Nov 19th 2011
From Dec 11th steam will return to a twice daily run from Wolsztyn to Poznan and when the track is bedded in, from June 1st 2012, the morning outward and the return afternoon working which carry the daily commuters will go to a limited stop service this will reduce the steam time to 1 hour 23 mins still with 8 stops. Please note, that during the winter, in the advent of a snow forecast the steam loco will stay in Poznan and return on the 1920 the last train of the day and take the first of the next day the 0432 this is to act as a snow plough, as last winter the snow played havoc with the railcars.
Meanwhile the progress of Wielkapolska Railways in eventually taking over the depot at Wolsztyn and the steam fleet is slowly making headway but in the intermediate period the service will continue to be powered by PKP Cargos’ steam locomotives on behalf of Wielkapolska Railways.
Loco News
The operating locos this winter will be Ol49-59 & Pm 36-2. Ol49-69 is to return from works during the winter. It is hoped that a 2-10-0 Ty2 will be released from Chabowka as a 3rd back up engine to cover this winter and to haul several steam specials that groups wish to run in the Wolsztyn area.Steam Specials 2012

For Photographers and Gricers
Entrance to the depot at Wolsztyn is available to all a payment of 5PLN per person should be given to the depositor.
The best deal for steam travel is a 3 day regional railways rover ticket cost only 95PLN (£19). The ticket covers all regional railway services throughout Poland In 3 days you can cover 465 miles of steam, not a bad deal! We may have space for a one trip footplate course whilst you are there, you do not necessarily have to have a complete week.
One question to be asked is - when the take over by Wielkapolska Railways happens will they wish for publicity reasons to put at least one loco in their colour scheme?
Reproduced here is how the colour may look on a train set, discussion is rife amounst Polish Rail enthusiasts who like those in Britain continually disagree with each other on loco colour schemes, sometimes without thought to the publicity value gained from the general public, what do you think?
The best of 1949
Both the Vulcan V Bomber and the Polish Ol49 were designed in 1949
Today, only the steam locomotive is in regular service whilst the Vulcan is a flying museam.
