Q. Will I need specialist clothing ?
A. Yes a pair of overalls or dungarees will help prevent some parts of you getting greasy. Also you will appreciate a pair of gardening gloves all year round, not only for the cold but as protection against burns from hot surfaces. Warm underwear may be required in winter, in summer the Polish crews often just wear check shirts, long sleeved, and jeans, you should have substantial footwear.
There is a locker on the locomotives where personal gear including cameras may be stored.


Q. Will accommodation be provided ?
A. Yes, accommodation is provided. There are four en suite rooms available, priority given to couples and 2 single rooms that share a bathroom. If we have more than 6 single persons we board you in a local guest house. NO ROOM SHARING is expected unless it is requested. Please read down for "can I choose my accommodation"

Q. Can you arrange the necessary flights and connections ?
A. No we can not. We can no longer provide a booking facility due to the online restrictions and processes of the cheaper airlines. However this is not a difficult task.

Q. How about maps and time tables etc ?
A. The download page on this web site contains downloads of timetables, maps and travel information, so please feel free to download them and print to take on your trip.

Q. When can I talk to someone in the office regarding bookings etc ?
A. The office is in the UK and will be available from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. We often check emails at other times so please feel free to send emails at your convenience.

Q. What currency is best to take ?
A. The Polish currency is Zlotys and you may get a better deal in Wolsztyn, so don't be too concerned about arranging your currency in the UK. There is a hole in the wall and Sterling cash can be changed at the Cantor in Wolsztyn or Poznan, hours 9-6 M_F 9-2 Sat. Banks can also be used as a last resort as they take forever to serve you, M_F 9-5. These are marked on the map.

Q. Will I be able to take photographs ?
A. There will be endless opportunities to take hundreds of photos particularly when not actually driving.

Q. Can I order prints of the gallery images?
A. Yes you can,take a look at the shop. A high quality A3 print will cost £20 and an image printed to canvas (looks like a high quality painting) start from £99. Make a note of the image number then use the contact us for more info.

Q. Where do I find Information Regarding My Trip To Wolsztyn?
A. Please don't ring until you have explored the website thoroughly, as all vital information required is on the website for you to download or peruse. Background information on Wolsztyn and railway historical information will be in the booklet provided.

Q. How do we pay?
A. Payment can be made by cheque, payable to The Wolsztyn Experience and sent to the UK address(contact us page). For foriegn customers please contact us for bank transfer details or simply use our PAYMENTS page on this website to pay directly to our Barclays account.

Q. Who Owns And Runs The Steam Locos In Wolsztyn?
A. PKP Cargo own most of the loco's used on scheduled services. The Wolsztyn Experience have an agreement to run footplating courses on those locos.

Q. When do I have to pay?
A. All monies owed should be paid one month before your date of arrival or by arrangement only on your arrival in Wolsztyn.Payments can now be made from our payments page on this website.

Q. What is the electricity voltage and powerpoints in Poland?
A. Poland operates on 220V AC with normal continental 2 pin plugs.

Q. How can I connect to the internet in Wolsztyn?
A. There is an internet café some 300 yards from the Wolsztyn Experience house

Q. Will my mobile phone work in Poland?
A. Poland has very good mobile phone reception, but you must make sure that your phone is not barred for foreign use, and in the case of USA and some other non European citizens check with the service provider that your phone has all frequency roaming.

Q. Whats the weather like in Poland?
A. Poland being continental has a more extreme form of climate than the UK with colder winters and warmer summers. However, global warming means that patterns are more variable. Traditionally Wolsztyn is a dry area with less rainfall than London, normally about 20 ins per year as against London’s 25. Q. What is the time difference in Poland?
A. Poland is UK + 1 hour, with the clocks changing on the same dates for Summer Time.

Q. Can I hire a car or van in Wolsztyn?
A. No - but you can in Poznan, the airport is the easiest pick up point. Speed limits are low in Poland 90 kph,110 kph dual carriageways and 130 kph on motorways and in town between 40 –60 and you must drive with headlights all year. If travelling from Germany you can pick up at Berlin airports but you must inform the company on booking that you require to take the car to Poland.
However, we can supply a driver and car for railway photography from Wolsztyn; ½ day rate is 300–500 PLN depending on distance and a full day rate is 600 PLN. Booking is through Howard at the Wolsztyn House or by ringing Marek Ciesielski 0048 (0) 691865781 by the day before required.


Q. Is food included?
A. No, but we do charge 90PLN per week and 40 PLN for weekend courses for unlimited soft drinks, tea, coffee cereals, toast and preserves. A brunch can be provided for 20PLN between the hours of 1130 –1300 at the house. This is the best time for all participants to meet between the morning and afternoon trains. Wolsztyn has 4 superb restaurants, all located on the downloadable map; the best value is at the Powozownia with a three course meal starting at around 33 PLN; wine is available at all restaurants and Beer (PIWA) is 4 PLN in a bar. There are also numerous cafes & bars.
Poznan’s best restaurants are in the square, some 20 mins walk from the station; a quick snack can be had in Macdonalds just outside the side entrance to the station. There is a good Greek restaurant farther up the street from Macdonalds; the location is on the Poznan Station Map.


Q. Are there any facilities for laundry in Wolsztyn?
A. The short answer is no there are no laundrettes or laundry facilities available to the general public in Wolsztyn or surrounding areas.

Q. Can I choose my accommodation?
A. No, is the short answer. For all sorts of reasons we can only allocate rooms once guests arrive in Poland. However we will always do our best to make sure your stay with us is comfortable and memorable for all the right reasons.

Q. Where is the Polish Office?
A. Our base in Poland is just a few minutes walk from the station. The address will be in the leaflet sent to you before your trip, so please take it with you to Poland.
