The Wolsztyn Experience is a mutual trust society

and was set up and is run by British enthusiasts to offer financial support for the continued use of scheduled steam services in Poland. The original membership was 31 life members.

The Society has gone from strength to strength over the last 11 years. We enjoy a unique agreement with PKP giving the society first option on all access to steam footplates in Poland.
The access charges for the footplate as paid to PKP add up to approx 10% of the depot's running costs.

For this we contribute approx 10% of the running costs of the depot at Wolsztyn The continued use of steam on scheduled services has only been possible by the amazing enthusiasm for steam operation from PKP (Cargo) and the Polish Authorities.

In addition to footplate permit fee's to PKP the Wolsztyn Experience also funds other projects. Four of the major projects to have received funding are;

  1. the restoration of Ok22-31 with the co-operation of the Warsaw Transport Museum,
  2. the rebuilding of the Water Tower at Wolsztyn Depot
  3. assistance with the refurbishment of the Museum on Wolsztyn depot.
  4. lengthening the turntable at Wolzstyn.

We also help fund the narrow guage operations from time to time and have purchased a Px48 0-8-0 for use at Smigiel.

With the support of some British enthusiasts we have lease purchased TKT48-18 and have been operating this on our courses out of Wroclaw. However at the end of 2008 a further overhaul is required and donations will be greatly received to bring it back into operation for 2010.

Thanks to all those who have contributed to this wonderful steam opportunity by supporting our footplate experiences
